Upcoming Testing News:
The third grade students at Monroe Elementary have been working hard preparing for the Stanford and the Ohio Reading and Math Achievement tests. The week of March 19th – 23rd the third graders took the Stanford Test. The Stanford is a series of tests in language arts, math, science, and social studies. This will show the level of knowledge at this time for each individual student. The last day of testing, the students took the OLSAT test, which shows their potential learning ability.
The Achievement Test is the “high stakes” test the third grade students will take on May 2nd and 3rd. The students will take the Third Grade Ohio Reading Achievement Test and the Third Grade Ohio Math Achievement Test. Students have been working very hard to sharpen up their test taking skills through a variety of lessons and activities. Good Luck to all our third graders on their upcoming tests! We are confident they will shine!
Upcoming Events:
The third graders have put a lot of time and practice in their upcoming music presentation, Step Into the Spotlight. The music presentation is featured at Monroe Elementary Thursday, March 29th at 6:30 in our Auditorium. Come check out our third graders in their fun, upbeat, choreographed music performance!
The third grade teachers are planning a spring field trip for our third graders this year to the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum. Students will study Ohio aviation history, timelines, science, and careers. We are looking forward to our upcoming field trip! Look for more information to come home with your third grade child in April.
The Third Grade Hornet Academy has once again proven to be a success this year! The Academy involves the students moving to each of the 3rd grade rooms during a 2 day period and participating in the special activities that have been prepared by the teacher in that room. These activities correspond to specific standards for the 3rd grade. The students will be participating in at least one more Hornet Academy fourth quarter. The upcoming Hornet Academy will correlate with the Pioneer Unit we have planned. Students will be studying pioneer life by reading the book Pioneer Cat, be involved in problem solving pioneer life activities on the computer game The Oregon Trail, and rotating to all the third grade teachers in our next indicator rich, fun-filled Hornet Academy where the students make, create, and study the life of pioneers.
We are looking forward to a great rest of the year!
The Third Grade Teachers!
