This continues to be an exciting year in sixth grade. Our students continue to strive towards excellence both academically and behaviorally. To award students who continually meet these high expectations, the sixth grade has developed the STARR program. Recently, our sixth grade STARR students had the opportunity to go to the Red’s Hall of Fame and had an amazing experience there. We greatly anticipate our next incentive trip where STARR students will be going to the Paul Brown Stadium.
Academic expectations are also very high for our students. Students are currently taking the Stanford Test which focuses on all academic areas including math, reading, language, spelling, social studies, and science. We are also diligently preparing for the Ohio Achievement Tests which our students take on April 30th and May 1st.
Currently in the classroom, students are studying measurement in math and are learning how to convert units of measurement in both the metric and customary systems. In reading, students have been studying persuasive writing and are learning to identify various types of propaganda. In English, students just completed a persuasive paper and are currently working on writing summaries. In the area of Science, students are currently studying the interactions of matter and energy. In Citizenship, students are beginning a new unit on Economics and are learning the value of trading and the various roles they have as a consumer.
Our students continue to impress us each and every day. In the school wide Spelling Bee, Peterson Ochei (sixth grade) came in first place and Matt Thorpe (sixth grade) came in second place. We look forward to seeing our students continue to strive towards excellence by doing their best each and every day!
