Monroe Kindergarten/Preschool Students Wrap Up the Year

May brought a busy but great end to the 06-07 school year for the Kindergarten and Preschool classes at Monroe Elementary. They visited Niederman Farm where they had the opportunity to see and pet many farm animals, including several babies. They learned about and milked a fiberglass dairy cow. They also took a hay ride to the pumpkin patch where they planted seeds and learned about how those seeds will grow into pumpkins. If you have the chance to visit this fall, you may get to see the pumpkins the children planted! The Kindergarten students did a wonderful job of coming together for the first time as a large group with both AM and PM classes combined to put on a patriotic evening performance in the high school gymnasium. The students did a great job of singing and reciting patriotic songs and poems and for their families. Thanks for the support of all the family and community members. We had a great turn out and a very successful fundraising effort. Thank you goes to Amie Earls for heading up and organizing the bake sale, to all the families that donated goodies, and to Kroger for donating table items. Proceeds will go to purchasing materials for the Kindergarten classrooms. The Preschool End of the Year ceremony was a great success also. Thanks to all our parents and grandparents for coming. It was a great turnout and the children were adorable. A big thank you also needs to go out to Victory Lane Pizza for helping out with the Kindergarten end of the year pizza party. The students really enjoyed the delicious pizzas. Now that the 06-07 year has ended, focus shifts toward the 07-08 school year. Kindergarten screening will take place August 6th, 7th, and 8th. Parents should bring the upcoming kindergarten children to the Monroe Primary school at their appointed time to be assessed by the kindergarten teachers. Having the information before the start of school allows the teachers to “hit the ground running” when school starts. After the screening process is complete, parents will receive information via mail about which teacher their child has been assigned to. Currently there are four kindergarten teachers -- Mrs. Austin, Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Piccioni and a warm welcome to new kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Keller. Best of luck is offered to Mrs. O’Hara as she moves to 2nd grade. Kindergarten conferences will take place on August 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. At that time students and their parents will have the opportunity to go in and see their classroom and meet with their teacher to go over pertinent information and answer/discuss any questions/concerns. Then the 1st day of kindergarten is Monday, August 27! Preschool starts just a little later. The first day of preschool will be September 5. The preschool teachers will make contact with families in August to schedule a visit to discuss relevant information. We are very excited to be moving into the newly updated Monroe Primary Building. Utilizing the former elementary facility not only provides a cost-effective way to accommodate the needs of our rapidly growing student body, but also allows a smaller setting with the opportunity to really focus in on the developmental needs of primary school children. New lighting, new ceilings, added security measures, and bright classrooms with brand new computers will be ready to greet kindergarten and preschool children in August! Here’s looking forward to another great year in 2007-2008!
