Monroe Elementary Reading Specialist Bethlea Pieratt received a grant in June 2007 for “Learning and Leadership” which was funded by the NEA Foundation. The Grant, in the amount of $5000.00 is to be used for improving fluency and comprehension in student reading at Monroe Elementary. The approved grant program will consist of a group of up to 18 teachers who will collaborate on a book study to examine their teaching to enhance reading instruction. The study group members will investigate work and data to develop practical ways to apply research to the classroom setting. The study group will share the new information with other Monroe Elementary teachers at their team meetings and staff meetings. This will help to maximize the impact on student achievement.
