On April 10, four scouts from Monroe Cub Scout Pack 54 participated in the Hopewell District Pinewood Derby held at Kings Toyota in Mason. The scouts (pictured from left to right) are Gavin M., Chris H., Dominick P., and Gabriel M. To compete at the District Pinewood Derby, scouts had to place in the top four (or be selected as alternates) in the Monroe Pack 54 Pinewood Derby, which was held in February at the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Center.
In the Monroe Pack 54 Pinewood Derby, 40 cub scouts competed in timed races to see which scout made the fastest car. All scouts started with a kit containing a block of wood, wheels, and axles. With the help of their parents, each scout turned his block of wood into a racing machine. The four fastest cars for this year's Pack 54 Pinewood derby were built by Chris H., Christian L., Dominick P., and Adam B. The Cub Scout Safe Driver award went to Austin B. In addition to the races, this year the scouts got to vote for their top five favorite car designs. These “Cub Choice” awards for best car design went to Chris H., Hayden T., Jacob H., Sam H., and Gabriel M. To find out more about the Monroe Cub Scouts, please visit www.monroecubscouts.net.
