Loads of Hairspray on the La Comedia Stage

Through June 26th La Comedia Dinner Theater will be featuring the Broadway play Hairspray! La Comedia’s production of Hairspray doesn’t disappoint. Experienced actors from across the country treat the audience to good music and great acting.

Hairspray is set in the 1960’s during the civil rights era. The musical explores some of the struggles that African-Americans faced during the 1960’s.

Nicole Nesbitt plays the role of Tracy, a young girl dreaming of TV stardom, who is obsessed with the Corny Collins Show. Tracy always has to make it home after school just in time to watch the show. Her dream is to one day appear on the Corny Collins Show! When Corny Collins decides to leave the show a decision is made to hold open auditions for the next star of the Corny Collins Show. Tracy is thrilled by the opportunity to appear on the show. Tracy is presented with a series of challenges including Amber and Velma Von Trussle who will stop at nothing to get Amber on the show. Tracy when given the opportunity to dance attracts not only the host Corny but also Link the guy that Tracy dreams about. Tracy while being excited about her great fortune feels that it’s not fair that African-Americans cannot dance on the show. She does everything in her power to make sure the show is integrated. Numerous challenges are presented throughout the musical but Tracy is able to overcome those challenges!

The musical features suburb acting that keeps the audiences entertained throughout the evening. It is highly recommended you take your family to see the Broadway hit musical Hairspray! The musical does feature some local talent from Middletown including Miranda Harrison, Chelsea Pickett and Skylar Gamble. Hairspray will be playing on the La Comedia stage through the 26th of June.
