Local Authors Book Signing at Monroe Lending Library

As a part of Monroe Lending Library’s Grand Opening Celebration, we are happy to host a book signing for local authors, Scott Fowler and Marcia McCartt, on October 8th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Scott Fowler will be selling and signing his book, LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park, published by Arcadia Publishing.

The book serves as history for the amusement park. LeSourdsville Lake, also known as Americana Amusement Park by a generation of visitors, was a popular recreational park for many decades despite, being located within 15 miles of Kings Island, one of the premier theme parks in

the country. Emphasis on providing quality food and personalized catering enabled the park to host hundreds of annual company picnics, high school proms, and family reunions. The park's success was maintained by featuring such classic rides as the Electric Rainbow and the Whip and the Screechin' Eagle and Serpent roller coasters, while the Stardust Gardens provided quality entertainment ranging from the best of the big bands to the greatest music and television stars of the 1960s. Families visited "the Lake" as religiously as they drove the same route to work every day.

Marcia McCartt will be selling and signing her book, Monroe, Ohio, also published by Arcadia Publishing.

The book is pictorial history of Monroe. Nathaniel Sackett Sr. was head of the secret service at Fishkill, New York, during the Revolutionary War. Monroe was platted by his son Nathaniel Sackett and John Piatt in 1817. The men chose to name this small farming community after the recently elected U.S. president, James Monroe. The Red Onion Hotel, located in the center of town, was a popular stagecoach stop during the 1850s. Monroe was a town where everyone met at the stadium for football games, a town where people never locked their doors. A tornado ripped through the village in 1969, and its citizens pulled together in the aftermath. Monroe has retained a very close-knit, small-town atmosphere. This is attributed to the men and women who love this city and donate their time to service organizations that make the town vital. The leaders are very accessible to the citizens and always take the time to smile and say hello.
