Each year the Monroe Area Community Foundation presents several scholarships to qualifying graduating seniors at Monroe Local Schools. The MACF does so by utilizing trusts, memorial gifts and designated contributions to build individual funds to make the monies available. This year, the Foundation awarded the following 2009 scholarships to the recipients listed below.
Taylor Brooks (major: Nursing)--The James A. Macready M.D. Memorial Scholarship, $1000, to a senior continuing education in a medical related field. Cassandra N. Daniel (major: Pediatric Therapy)--The James M. Anderson M.D. and Bertha Anderson Family Scholarship, $1000, to a senior continuing education in medicine. William Maaxwell Hesson (major: Graphic Design)--The Richard L. Miltenberger Memorial Scholarship, $250, to a senior who lettered in a varsity sport and is continuing education in an art related field. Another Richard L. Miltenberger Memorial Scholarship for $250 was presented to senior Maggie Hinkle (major: Human Rights), who also lettered in a varsity sport. Maggie Hinkle (major: Human Rights)--The Lee Ann Miltenberger Memorial Scholarship, $300, for outstanding achievement in the study of photography. Ashley Ledford (major: Global Business Management and Communications)--The Lee Ann Miltenberger Memorial Scholarship, $300, for outstanding achievement in the study of drama. Robbie Childers (major: Criminal Justice)--The Monte Miltenberger Memorial Scholarship, $350, to a graduating senior continuing a field of study at a technical or vocational school. Rebecca Louise Parker (major: Secondary Education)--The Janine Westercamp Memorial Scholarship, $250, to a senior who is enrolled in an accredited college or university majoring in Education, Family Services, Social Services or a related field of study. Joshua T. Hofer (major: Philosophy)--1st place, $750; Brittany Brooks (major: Education)--2nd place, $300; and Krista Brooks (major: Education)--3rd place, $200;--The Nancy Cahill G.I.G.G.L.E.S Memorial Scholarship. These awards are given to graduating students who have demonstrated exceptional interest in the Monroe area community.
The MACF is also pleased to announce an additional Miltenberger family scholarship to be started in 2010. It is to memorialize Gloria Miltenberger’s son, Todd Miltenberger, who passed away in 2009.
