Summer Reading Program
The Monroe Lending Library is again offering a Reading Contest, open to the children of the Monroe and surrounding area, that begins June 8th and ends June 27th. The top three readers who have read the most books will receive prizes and the opportunity to ride in the parade on Saturday, July 4th. No registration is required for this reading contest; however books read must be checked out from the Monroe Lending Library.
"A is for Artist"
Summertime Kids Grant
The Monroe Lending Library is the recipient of a Greater Cincinnati Foundation "Summertime Kids" Grant.
"A is for Artist" will be our summer reading/craft program introducing children to the art of four main artists: Dale Chihuly, Jackson Pollard, Louise Nevelson and Charley Harper.
This four-week program will be open to the children of the Monroe Community, either as visitors from a local summer care group or on Saturday mornings during our normal library hours.
Our goals for this program are to share literature about and some of the more famous art of these artists; show the differences and relationships among the artists; and allow the children to create their own art, similar to that of the artist whom we are studying each week.
The "A is for Artist" program will be held on July 11, 18, 25 and August 1. To register your child, stop by the Monroe Lending Library behind the Monroe Primary School during our open hours or call the Library at 360-0714. You may leave a message during our non-library hours.
The four-week project will culminate in an art show, displaying all the children's art projects. We are planning a picnic party in conjunction with our art show handing our prizes to the children for their art pieces.
