Monroe Athletic Hall of Fame Seeking Nominations

submitted by Bob Miller

The Monroe Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations from alumni and Hornet fans.  Monroe High School has produced many outstanding athletes over the years and we need to recognize these individuals for their athletic accomplishments throughout their high school careers.

The HOF Standing Committee knows that many grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews or friends deserve to be nominated for consideration to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.  You must start the process by completing a nomination form with your particular athlete's name, senior class picture and attaching photocopies of newspaper articles stating their accomplishments.  This can be done by looking through scrapbooks, yearbooks or by going to the library to obtain these articles.  Deadline for the Class of 2009 nominations is August 31, 2009.

We, like so many organizations, need financial support.  Your donations will purchase two plaques, one for the individual and the other to be displayed on the Athletic Hall of Fame Wall at the high school.  We would like to have the funds to have a banquet as well as the induction ceremony at a basketball game.  If the financial support is obtained and continued we would like to give a monetary scholarship to one senior female and male athlete recognizing their accomplishments each year at the school awards assembly.  Your donations will help you honor those deserving of this award as well as help to motivate our young athletes to become members of an elite group in the future.  Please send your financial support to First Financial Bank to be directly deposited into the Monroe Athletic Hall of Fame account.

We would like to thank the following businesses that have donated money since we started in 2007:

Ball Brothers Foundation Inc., BEI Trailer & Container Inc./Benedict Enterprises Inc., Dickerson Distributing Co. Inc, Field Sports Arena Inc., Lebanon Electrical Supply, Midfirst Credit Union, Middletown Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, State Farm Truesdell Agency, W.E. MacDonald Agency Inc., and a special thanks to the Monroe Athletic Booster Club for purchasing plaques for the eight 1982 Hall of Fame Inductees.  We would like to thank the following individuals who have donated money:  Stuart and Diane Wilson, Dutch Collins, Stacey Deaton, Dave Malott, Bob Miller and Jane Murphy.

We hope this year and years to come we will get the financial backing to achieve our future goals to support the Monroe Athletic Hall of Fame program.  Please visit the website www.hornethallway.com, then click on Hall of Fame to get nomination forms and information on where to send donations.  If you have questions please feel free to contact Bob Miller at 513-539-9561 or Jane Murphy at 513-424-0044.
