Football back at Monroe!

Two things are clear now that the 2008 H.S. Football season is under way, Colerain's winning ways have continued and after suffering a 14-7 loss Friday night, Monroe's have not.

That said, it's not as bad as it may seem, the wide open spread offense has been replaced by a triple option run offense. The offense seemed to have a few procedural errors that will need to be worked through this week and given the work habits of new head coach Ken Meibers, I am positive they will fine tune it for the showing against Fenwick this coming week.

The defense, led by new assistant coach Joe Ward, has a new more aggressive look which compliments the style of offense the Hornets have adopted. Holding Jonathan Alder to only 14 points is a credit to that defense. The Hornets fall to 1 and three lifetime against the pioneers and at the end of week one, the Hornets are the only team on their own schedule with a loss. That can not continue if the Hornets are to have any chance at a playoff spot this season.

Noticeable players of the week were #10 Brad Hunt, whose hard off season work and dedication, was very evident Friday night. I would hope to see many more great games this season from Brad. #6 Blair Stegman and #9 Jeff Haller both turned in noticeable performances despite Haller getting banged up very late in the first half.

The Hornets will face Fenwick at home on August 29th at home. The Falcons coming off an impressive 32-3 victory against Mariemont, will be a tough challenge for the Hornets.
