Clothes Closet at First Baptist

The Youth at First Baptist Church of Monroe, 457 South Main, has started a clothes closet  with the desire to provide clothes and shoes to any needy families in Monroe. Donations are accepted from the community as well.
This ministry was made possible with the added space in the church due to the construction of our new family life center.

Bethlehem Village December 12 & 13

The Monroe First Church of God will recreate the sights, sounds and activities of Bethlehem 2000 years ago for its regionally-acclaimed Bethlehem Village. The walking tour through the village is free and open to the public.
Upon entering, visitors will be given a few “shekels” to purchase small items from the many shops in the village. The potters, tent makers, bakers, leatherworkers and many other tradespeople will be happy to share information about their crafts.
Visitors may also encounter shepherds with their animals, Roman Centurions, and perhaps a beggar or two along the way. Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus can also be found in the manger.
Hours are from 5-8 p.m. both nights. Since this is an outdoor event, please wear weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. More information about Bethlehem Village is available at www.monroefirstchurch.com.

Builders for Christ Expanding First Baptist Church

Volunteers from across the country have been hard at work this summer creating a new multi use Worship Activity Center at the First Baptist Church on Main St. The new addition will include several classrooms and a fellowship area. The main area is designed to double as a gym for basketball and volleyball.

The volunteer organization Builders for Christ takes on three projects per year, and volunteers spend a week working on the construction. Materials are supplied by the local congregation.

Richard Young, leader of the Waycross, GA group has been doing this as part of his "vacation" for many years.  He says, "we laugh a lot, eat a bunch, and do a little work. We do it for the love of the Lord and the people."
