Mommy and Me Make Music will begin it's summer session in June. Classes are offered for children ages 4 months to 4 years old. All classes have a theme that is age-appropriate and educational. Parents and children interact while playing a variety of instruments, doing finger play songs and circle dances. Props, such as scarves, parachute, and beanbags, are also used. All activities are designed to encourage the development of social, cognitive, physical, and language skills. This is a great opportunity to interact with your child in a loving and educational environment. Sessions average $9 per class and will be held on Monday mornings at Monroe Presbyterian Church.
On Saturday June 5th, from 11:30am-8pm, Smith Park in Middletown will be the host to the 3rd Annual Middletown Freedomfest. The even is an all day Christian music festival that will feature many great bands, soloists and comedians from all over the tri-state area. The event is completely free to the public. There will be free food and drinks, as well as many different activities for kids, including Smith Park's splash pad. Appearing at this year's fest include: NewsDay, Frantic 180, Lest We Boast, Live Past Life, James Potts Band, Erica Keene, Eden's Tree, Roman's Highway, Dana Honerlaw, Tim Consley, Rick Allen, comedian Rob Stamper, and comedian Eric Johnson. The Monroe Presbyterian Church will present a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and Christmas Pageant at 7:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Open practice for all children interested in participating in Christmas Pageant will be held on Sunday, December 6th at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 57 W. Elm Street.
The Monroe First Church of God will recreate the sights, sounds and activities of Bethlehem 2000 years ago for its regionally-acclaimed Bethlehem Village. The walking tour through the village is free and open to the public. Upon entering, visitors will be given a few “shekels” to purchase small items from the many shops in the village. The potters, tent makers, bakers, leatherworkers and many other tradespeople will be happy to share information about their crafts. Visitors may also encounter shepherds with their animals, Roman Centurions, and perhaps a beggar or two along the way. Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus can also be found in the manger. Hours are from 5-8 p.m. both nights. Since this is an outdoor event, please wear weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. The Youth at First Baptist Church of Monroe, 457 South Main, has started a clothes closet with the desire to provide clothes and shoes to any needy families in Monroe. Donations are accepted from the community as well. This ministry was made possible with the added space in the church due to the construction of our new family life center. Children and caregivers interact in a loving and educational environment while playing a variety of instruments, singing songs, dancing, using props (such as balls, beanbags, and parachutes), and listening to stories. Instructor Jodi Williams, a board-certified music therapist and mother of two small children, uses each musical activity to address social, cognitive, communication, physical, and developmental skills. Volunteers from across the country have been hard at work this summer creating a new multi use Worship Activity Center at the First Baptist Church on Main St. The new addition will include several classrooms and a fellowship area. The main area is designed to double as a gym for basketball and volleyball.
The volunteer organization Builders for Christ takes on three projects per year, and volunteers spend a week working on the construction. Materials are supplied by the local congregation.

Dave Ramsey is the well-known FOXNEWS financial guru and New York Times bestselling author of "Financial Peace University." On Thursday, April 23rd, the doors at LifeWay Church will open at 7:15 pm, and the simulcast will begin at 8:00 pm. The focus of this nationwide Town Hall meeting is how America came to be in the present financial crises and what we as individuals can do to get through it successfully.
