MLL: Marian Jackson Colored Pencil Art Class March 17th

A Colored Pencil Painting Class is being offered at the Monroe Lending Library on Saturday, March 17th from 9:30 AM to 4:40 AM. Cost is $30.00 plus materials (pencils). There is a limit of 30 students.

Monroe Historical Society Sets Board for 2012

--Welcomes back Anna Hale & newcomer Leslie Sumner

The Monroe Historical Society has elected its Board of Directors for 2012 and is very pleased to announce the return of Anna Hale to active status as Special Events Chair. Anna has a long history with the Society, including being one of the founding members in 1967. A 50+ year Monroe resident, Anna who is on City Council and recently served 2 years as the only female Vice-Mayor, is also active with the Garden Club & Presbyterian Church. Read more »

Are You a Dog Lover?

A volunteer committee is being formed to examine the feasibility of a dog park in Monroe. Catnip & Carrots Animal Bunch (a local animal welfare organization) is spearheading the discussion together with help from our Public Works Dept.

The first meeting will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 2 pm & again at 7 pm at the new Community Room, 6 East Ave., next to the new library. The Dog Park committee will be discussing locations, feasibility, funding, and other related items. All interested residents are invited to attend this information session. Read more »

Monroe Historical Society December Program

The Monroe Historical Society’s final program of the year will be Sunday, December 11 at 2pm. The featured speaker will be Mr. Vincent Rush of Cincinnati Sports Photography. He will be discussing his time as a photographer with the USO and celebrities such as Bob Hope, Brooke Shields, & Wayne Newton. If you have ever seen any of Vince’s photos, you know what an amazing artist he is with a camera.

Election Day Luncheon

The Monroe United Methodist Women's 36th annual Election Day Luncheon will be Tuesday, November 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m in Atchely Hall, 206 East Ave. Monroe.

Menu includes homemade vegetable soup, hot chicken sandwich, sloppy joe sandwich and hot dogs. Included in the menu will be cottage cheese, cole slaw and a variety of homemade pies and cakes. 

Community Chorus Christmas Show Dec. 2 & 3

Many of you have been asking about the Christmas Concert Series. Well we have been in full rehearsal mode since mid September. The performance dates are Friday Dec. 2, and Saturday Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The concerts will be held at the beautiful Monroe HS Auditorium. There is no admission charge. All of the music that the 55 voice Monroe Community Chorus will be performing is brand new. The arrangements are wonderful and will showcase several styles of music including jazz/rock, mambo, waltz, swing, ballad, and big band just to name a few. Read more »
