Mommy and Me Make Music will begin it's summer session in June. Classes are offered for children ages 4 months to 4 years old. All classes have a theme that is age-appropriate and educational. Parents and children interact while playing a variety of instruments, doing finger play songs and circle dances. Props, such as scarves, parachute, and beanbags, are also used. All activities are designed to encourage the development of social, cognitive, physical, and language skills. This is a great opportunity to interact with your child in a loving and educational environment. Sessions average $9 per class and will be held on Monday mornings at Monroe Presbyterian Church.
The Monroe Fighting Hornet Marching Band participated in the annual UC band day on September 12, 2009. The band prepared the provided musical selections and was one of several bands that performed during halftime of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football game. This was a wonderful experience for the students in the marching band and will likely be a traditional yearly event for the group. On Saturday, September 19, 2009, the Monroe Fighting Hornet marching band participated in the Bishop Fenwick Band contest, "The Force." This was the first contest for most of the band members. The band performed well and may choose to participate in another contest later in the marching season.
The Fighting Hornet Band Department is looking ahead to making two major purchases. We are in need of new uniforms and repairs/repainting for the band trailer. Our uniforms are over 10 years old and are showing the wear and tear that is no longer repairable. The trailer is essential for transporting instruments and supplies to football games, parades and competitions. As you can guess, these projects are a very large expense, especially for a small school with a limited budget.
We are seeking sponsors to help us with our goals. New uniforms cost approximately $400 each and the trailer repairs/repainting is a little over $3500. In order to meet these needs we need to raise $23,500. We are offering to our sponsors numerous advertising options for their support.
