Veteran's Day Tribute

The fourth grade classes under the direction of Ms. Susan Knicely and Mr. Paul Mann presented their annual Veteran's Day Ceremony on November 10th and 11th.  This program is designed  both to honor our Veteran Guests and educate students about Veteran's Day. Each class at Monroe Elementary is now collecting  donations for a care package which will be sent to our servicemen and women currently serving overseas.

Gifts from the Heart at Elementary

This will be the eighth annual Gifts from the Heart food drive. Every year the Monroe School Community joins together to help those in our community who need some assistance during the holidays.
Each grade level will be responsible for donating selected items. The items are to be brought to school and put in marked tubs on Main Street. Collection of items will begin November 30 and end on December 11. The gifts will be distributed on December 16th.

The following are the selected items to be donated by each grade level:

Anger Busters at Primary

The next session of group counseling will begin in January upon return from winter break. The topic for group counseling beginning in January will be "Anger Busters." Many children benefit from this type of sharing group which focuses on developing skills to help students appropriately express their feelings when angry and frustrated. This group can also enhance self-esteem and interpersonal skills, as well as develop coping strategies for the causes of anger and frustration. Participation in this group is strictly voluntary and based on teacher and/or parent referral. If you are interested in having your child participate in this group, please contact Elizabeth Barger, School Counselor, at 360-0700 ext. 7107 or ebarger@monroelocalschools.com.   All referrals must be received by December 11!

Marching Band Performs at UC and Fenwick Band Contest

The Monroe Fighting Hornet Marching Band participated in the annual UC band day on September 12, 2009. The band prepared the provided musical selections and was one of several bands that performed during halftime of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football game. This was a wonderful experience for the students in the marching band and will likely be a traditional yearly event for the group.
On Saturday, September 19, 2009, the Monroe Fighting Hornet marching band participated in the Bishop Fenwick Band contest, "The Force." This was the first contest for most of the band members. The band performed well and may choose to participate in another contest later in the marching season.

Monroe Athletic Hall of Fame Seeking Nominations

submitted by Bob Miller

The Monroe Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations from alumni and Hornet fans.  Monroe High School has produced many outstanding athletes over the years and we need to recognize these individuals for their athletic accomplishments throughout their high school careers.

The HOF Standing Committee knows that many grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews or friends deserve to be nominated for consideration to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.  You must start the process by completing a nomination form with your particular athlete's name, senior class picture and attaching photocopies of newspaper articles stating their accomplishments.  This can be done by looking through scrapbooks, yearbooks or by going to the library to obtain these articles.  Deadline for the Class of 2009 nominations is August 31, 2009.
